Judy, your comment asks as good question and I'm going to answer that question in an article post. As for finding you a good trainer in the area, get in touch with me on the contact form on my site and I will help you.

Shari,
Your words about finding a "fitness professional" and not just a trainer, are really what struck home with me. I find working out with a trainer essential for me to stay motivated to actually exercise. But, they are definitely not all the same. And, the cost (or the investment, as I like to consider it) can be daunting. How do you find a "fitness professional" without bleeding yourself dry? Why does it have to be so expensive??? Do you have any suggestions for finding someone? I live in NYC and have a "trainer" right now, but I'm getting nowhere with improving my fitness level. Plus, after nearly two years, it's getting extremely boring--the anti-motivator!

Hi Blanche
Thanks for the comment. You're right, the magazines don't tell you this kind of stuff which is why I'm writing a book about this. I live it, breathe it, eat and sleep this every day, not just with myself, but with the people I help.

Yes, as you transition into building muscle, the scale will go up at first. Muscle weighs more than fat, but, as I mentioned, muscle is metabolic and burns fat. You will become a fat burning machine as you build muscle as long as you are consistent with your workouts and diet. If you kind of sort of diet and kind of sort of work out, you'll kind of sort of get results ;)

Super insightful tips--this is important info the magazines never tell you! I only wonder as the body starts to transition to a muscle burning machine if it's customary to gain a little weight first before incinerating the fat....thanks for the inspiration and tips Shari!
