I’ve Been Challenged!

I’ve been publicly challenged!

I was publicly challenged on my Facebook Fan Page by celebrity Trainer, Bonnie Pfiester and the challenge couldn’t have come at a much better time.

Bonnie and I have been following each other on line for the past 3-5 years and as we have gotten to know each other over the years, have developed not only a mutual respect and admiration, but a wonderful on line friendship as well.

Before I tell you why the timing of this public challenge was so perfect to me, I’m going to share with you what the actual challenge that was presented to me looks like in this image below

Being that I was publicly challenged on my own Facebook Page by none other than Mrs. Bonnie Pfiester, how I could I NOT accept the challenge?!

Perfect Timing
I’m very open and transparent with my experiences, however, I have been dealing with an “issue” since November of 2010 which I haven’t really been very public about.

Some of you may or may not know that I have an auto-immune disease called Hashimoto’s Disease.  What this means is that my body is slowly killing my thyroid.   Your thyroid is an essential part of your endocrine system which also regulates your metabolism.

For me, this causes hypothyroidism and from time to time, I will experience bouts of it.  Well, let’s just say that I’ve been dealing with a big bout of it over 6 months and doing better as of this writing.

Unfortunately, my adrenal system has been stressed out which can also affect your energy level.  So double whammy for me.  I am very fortunate to have a wonderful friend who is one of the best Naturopathic Doctors in Atlanta who has been working very closely with me to help stabilize me, and be able to attack my workouts with the level of intensity I am accustomed to.

Weight Gain and Body Fat …. Ugh 🙁
Over this time period, although I have been working out consistently like I always do and eat a very clean diet, I’ve packed on 5 lbs (which to most isn’t a big deal) which consists of body fat I’ve not had to deal with for a while.

Like most people, I’ve been feeling mushy and soft around my belly and it’s been a long time since I’ve felt that way.  Ever since I transformed my body, I have maintained and enjoyed a flat, firm belly.

Needless to say, having this “tire” creeping up around my belly is unacceptable and I’m not liking this.

Taking my own advice
One of the biggest pieces of advice I write about is not only should you have a Fitness Game Plan to follow, but you should change your workouts to keep your body challenged so that you will get results and keep from being bored and this could be trying out various workout programs.

Although I have been doing different workout programs, quite honestly, I haven’t really stepped very far out of my comfort and ego zone.  It’s no secret that I HATE cardio, avoid it and prefer hitting the iron hard and heavy and make no mistake, I’ve done very well with incorporating strength training, with plyometrics and core exercises.

Well… for the next 30 days all of that is about to change …..and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect….

A Challenge and a Call to Action
I love a good challenge and I have always been an action taker.  Deep down inside, I’ve known for the past few weeks that I really need to step out of my “training comfort zone” and really shake things up.

I admit, I don’t do Boot Camp Style Training.  Even though you’re not on a treadmill, in my mind, it’s still cardio which is why I’ve been avoiding it.

So… along comes Bonnie Pfiester with her public challenge to me to take on her 30-day on line Boot Camp style training … DoBCx On Line Boot Camp Training in partnership with Sears Fit Studio which is the perfect kick in the arse I needed to get it in gear.

Over the next 30 days, I’m going to be taking some extreme actions to get my body back to where it should be.

    Shari – this is so inspirational! Thanks for sharing your struggle as well as your challenge. We have very similar body types and I’ve been suffering some not so positive metabolic changes as well and feeling quite sorry for myself. Good luck with this challenge. I know you’ll kick butt! And thanks for the motivation.
