RIP James Gandolfini and Tony Soprano
I am so saddened , bummed, and shocked by the news of the death of one of my favorite actors, and a master at his craft, James Gandolfini, who played one of my favorite characters, Tony Soprano.
I’m not a big watcher of TV and try not to allow myself to get sucked into “the plug in drug”, but I’ve got to admit, when it came to The Sopranos, I was hooked big time and couldn’t wait to get my fix of the next episode.
James Gandolfini wasn’t much older than me and apparently died of a heart attack at the age of 51, which is way too young. He was still in the prime of his life…. so sad….
Could Gandolfini’s untimely death been avoided?
According to CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta,
“This is young to have a heart attack, even when you look at any pre-existing health conditions,” CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta said.
However, risk factors such as obesity, smoking, lack of exercise and stress can cause them to occur earlier in life, Gupta said.
Much like the character, Tony Soprano, Gandolfini played, both had a love of cigars, loved their food (which I’m taking a guess consisted of mostly high starch, simple complex carbohydrates such as bread, pasta, and the occasional meal that was covered in a rich, heavy sauce, along with the occasional dessert) and never really devoted much time to exercise.
Sadly, James Gandolfini’s 13 year old son, Michael, found his father collapsed in their Italy hotel room and called for help. The two were on a father-son vacation. How traumatic that must have been for his son. It’s hard enough losing a parent, particularly at such a young age, and it’s hard to imagine the impact finding his father collapsed will have on him for the rest of his life. So sad 🙁
Gandolfini had so much to live for. He recently had a baby girl with second wife, has a 13 year old son from his first marriage, and was working with HBO on a new series called “Criminal Justice”.
I couldn’t help but wonder, after the final season of The Sopranos aired six years ago, what if James Gandolfini had taken it upon himself six years ago, to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle? Would his untimely death have been avoided?
This is YOUR time
I’m such an advocate of teaching people to take control of your health, before your health takes control of you, particularly once you hit the age of 40. I know I’ve said this before, but I really cannot stress this enough – Once you hit the age of 40, everything you do now, or don’t do now, will have a major impact on how you live the last 10 years of your life.
I know this is a grim thought, but I would really like for you to think about this. If you were to die tomorrow of a stroke or heart attack, what would life be like for those you left behind? What moments would you be missing out on that you would never get to experience?
This is YOUR time and the time is NOW.
Do yourself and those you love and love you a favor. Take a good look at yourself. Be honest with yourself and ask yourself the following questions.
- Is your health up to par? Do you live each day feeling energized and alive….. like a Superhero ready to take on each and every day; or do you live each day feeling sluggish, sleepy, get the occasional headache, feel bloated, have body aches and pains?
- When you look at yourself naked in the mirror, do you like what you see or do you look at yourself in disgust?
- When was the last time you worked out? Are you building your best body, or letting it turn to mush?
- With every meal that you eat day in, day out, are you treating your body like a garbage dump, or treating your body like a temple, feeding your body nutrient-rich foods?
- Are you living each and every day feeling healthy, strong and living every day to it’s fullest potential ?
Now that you’ve answered these questions, it’s time to own up. This is YOUR time and the time is NOW. Take control before it’s too late.
Do you want to live the last 10 years of your life vibrant, alive and full of energy, or do you want to live the last 10 years of your life sick and decrepit. Remember, everything you do now or don’t do now will have a major impact on how you live the last 10 years of your life.
